The Playstation 2 is available in different versions. Actually it's fact that the higher the version the better the quality of the Hardware! One of the most frequently asked questions is how to see which version of PS2 you own since the Model-Number always is SCPH_3000x . Here are the differences:

VERSION 14
This is the new slim line Ps2 called PStwo, labelled as
SCPH7500X.

VERSION 12
This is the new slim line Ps2 called PStwo, labelled as
SCPH7000X.

VERSION 9 / V10
All console labelled as SCPH5000X are V9 or V10.
If after the code SCPH5000X there is also a small letter
"a" or "b", then is a V10 console.

VERSION 7 / 8
All console labelled as SCPH3900X are V7 or V8.

VERSION 5/ 6
The Product-ID at the bottom of the blue package is:
P-xxxxxx750-x

At the top front of the Harddisc Slot there is a screw like shown in the picture below! This screw does not exist in v4 Boards!

The v4 Consoles with Product-ID P-xxxxxx65x-x and P-xxxxxx85x-x are labeled SCPH-3000xR.
